The new Citroen sub-brand has sold over 2,051 Citroen DS3's in the UK between February and the end of July for just over £12,700. This stylish and fashionable three door hatchback has a beautifully finished interior which is largely based on the C3.

Main rivals to the DS3 come in the form of the Fiat 500 and the MINI and will sit alongside the C3, DS4, C4, DS5.

New Citroen DS3 - Citroen's Saviour?

A virtual sale conducted by British Car Auctions (BCA) for Citroen UK sold all 400 cars offered and generated a turnover of 3.07m; Michael Brown from Citroen UK said 'This represents a tremendous achievement and reflects the massive interest the DS3 has generated among motorists and the media alike.'

The DS3 is a re-vamp of the C3 but slightly longer than the five door core model but has more interesting lines and features.

It is available in three petrol engines VTi 95, VTi 120, BMW co-developed THP 150 (which can also be found in the Mini Cooper S) and diesel 1.6 HDI which comes in 90 and 110bhp.

This bold sub-brand seems to be proving successful and many see it is Citroen's saviour, the range come in 38 roof and body colour combinations along with matching alloy wheels. They also offer roof decals in the form of stripes, spots and tribal patterns.

The interior of the car looks nice but isn't amazingly spacious, the five seater seems to better suited to two in the back rather than three but the boot can hold up to 285 litres.

The exterior is quite similar to that of the MINI but has little tweaks such as a shark fin pointing up through the middle of the back passenger windows.

The rear pillar of the car is covered in glass to give the impression the roof is floating. The car also has the same engine as the MINI a 1.6 litre turbocharged power plant.

It comes in several models including the range topping DS3 D Sport and also a low CO2 model boasting 99g/km.

Prices start from £10,875 and rise to £15,030 and the DS4 and DS5 are set to launch in 2011 and 2012.
